Our journey began in 1950 when David and Fay McCrum opened the original Ashwood Pet Hotel. Fay, a well-known Persian cat breeder, began boarding cats for her clients. Her gentle, knowledgeable approach to feline care quickly earned a reputation across Auckland. With demand growing, David built purpose-designed cat facilities — creating one of Auckland’s first dedicated catteries.

With over 20 years at a local veterinary clinic, Carissa brings a wealth of experience to our cattery. Her skills in medication administration, including injectable medications like insulin, ensure that cats with special medical needs receive expert care.

We also offer complimentary grooming services to our feline guests during their stay, ensuring they return home looking their best. Additionally, we accommodate specialised diets provided by owners at no extra charge, maintaining consistency in your cat’s nutrition.

Our cattery has been lovingly transformed into a space designed to comfort and inspire. With seven key areas – including two spacious cage rooms, three sunny play areas, a cosy kitchen, and a welcoming reception – every cat has room to explore, rest, and play.

• A Room features our famous KatAttack Vegas Cat Playground and connects to the garden-facing play area through French doors.
• B Room offers large windows, bay perches, and a peaceful view of the surrounding trees and gardens.
• Cats can roam freely between play areas filled with cat trees, climbing shelves, sunbathing ledges, and secluded hidey holes for those who prefer solitude.

In 2009, renowned muralist Doug Ford added a native forest scene to the cattery walls—complete with birds, fish, and hidden frogs—creating a calming environment. More recently, Christian added striking murals during lockdown – including a bold tiger and colourful birds – turning our cattery into a visual sanctuary that’s as vibrant and calming as it is functional.
